Is it Spring Yet???
The weather may be a bit touch and go to officially declare spring but it is Spring Break this week – a weird break when you have young kids who aren’t in school yet. For those of us with little ones it just means a week when our favourite places are closed or jammed full with big kids. (PS: momstown isn’t closed though!)
For school aged families it’s a chance to spend extra time together, take a trip or a staycation or maybe find a super cool dayc amp. It’s a time that can be a bit tricky to find things to do, depending on the type of weather and your affinity towards crowds! So let us help with momstown Spring break local ideas!
1.) The Spring Break Bucket List
Sit your family down with pieces of paper, pencils & and a jar. Everyone writes down 4 family things they’d like to do over the holiday. If you’re working with a budget, one choice has a cost and the rest of the activities are free (or close to free). Fold the papers up individually and tuck into the jar. Over the holiday, pick two things out of the jar each night and plan to do them tomorrow. The fun is in the randomness and you'll have a spontaneous holiday! After the holiday is over, you can use this idea as an I’m Bored Box so you don’t have to hear that phrase again!
2.) Family Geo-caching
momstown Burlington holds regular family geocaching events and all are a success and would be a fun adventure for Calgary families! It's an international scavenger hunt and the clues are already prelaid out for people to find. Great fun for families any age! Partner with your child to find the incredible clues first! 3.) Three S’s: Skating, Swimming & Storytime,
Free or close to free activities are always best when on a budget and these physical activities are just that. Also, adaptable for all ages to participate. Public pools and skating rinks tend to run on different hours over Spring Break so check your local listings for details.

There's nothing quite like down-time to be the perfect opportunity to get creative and crafty - especially if the weather turns lousy and it's a rainy day. Our momstown arts and craft blog has tons of ideas to keep everyone in your family happy creating. Try our Easter craft ideas, Nursery Rhyme crafts, Spring flowers, Construction or Alphabet ideas. Or how about a constructive "craft" with baking! Whip up these Apple Brownies or Banana Bran Muffins with your kids - delicious fun!
5.) Think Green!
Earth Hour just passed but Earth Day is coming April 22! Get ready by heading out over Spring break for a Neighbourhood Clean up. Planting a garden this spring? It's a perfect time to visit garden centres to plan and also plant a few seeds in a sunny window sill for a family growing project.
6.) Stay-cation Field Trips
Great day trip ideas – just zip onto the highway to visit any of these terrific spots – many have special Spring Break activities planned and are ready for you and yours!
Calgary Tower - check out the sites in your own city from the fantastic tower!
Calgary Zoo - still open a great opportunity to experience at a less busy time.
Calgary Farmer's Market - pop in to experience delicious goodies and introduce your kids to the farmers and producers (open all year).
Dig for Dinos at the Royal Tyrrell Museum - what kid won't love looking for fossils?
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what you do this week. Spring break is supposed to be about family time and taking a break from the everyday. Enjoy your time together!
