We are so lucky to have a beautiful space at Enchanted Events to use for our Art and Play events, as well as special celebrations. The kids love having the opportunity to paint and create, and as adults it is always a wonderful to have the chance to visit and connect. At momstown Calgary we do not really need an excuse to get together and throw a party, but when we have one it makes it even more fun. This week we gathered to celebrate Easter and the coming of spring. There was lots of time to play and visit when we first arrived:
Once we had got settled in, it was time to get down to the serious business of celebrating. We had egg and spoon races:
Played a non-elimination version of "Hot Egg" (hot potato), where the player with the egg when the music stopped got to open it and discover the prize inside:
and put our gross motor skills to the test by learning to dance "The Bunny Hop", and trying to throw stuffed chicks into a basket (more on that soon).
In keeping with both the Easter theme, and momstown's curriculum theme of the month. We also made paper plate chicks:
Don't be chicken, painting and crafting with a group of toddlers is really fun!
To make your own paper plate baby chick, first paint your paper plate yellow:
While you wait for the paint to dry, trace your child's hands onto orange construction paper, and cut out. Cut a diamond shaped beak out of orange construction paper scraps. Once paint is dry, glue hands onto the plate around it's middle to form the chick's wings. Fold beak in half, and glue it on. Glue on googlie eyes above beak, and glue hair tuft to the backside of the plate, so that it peaks over the top. To make things a little simpler, we precut the chicks' hair, and divided the paper, plates, paint, and googlie eyes in advance. I love how unique each creation was. Here are just a few samples:
Even our littlest guests had a wonderful morning. You are never too young for a morning with friends!
