Earth Day is on April 22, and it is an event that I always like to recognize. Even seemingly small actions like recycling, buying second hand, taking public transit, or turning down the thermostat at night can have an a big impact on keeping the planet clean. And it's never too early to start teaching kids about environmental responsibility. In fact, kids are often more receptive to Earth friendly alternatives. Last year, one of the ways we celebrated the day was by making planet Earth collages out of scraps of green and blue paper in magazine ads. Here's a peek at what we created:
Another wonderful way to help the earth is by supporting local farmers and producers, and so this year we are recognizing Earth Day by partnering with ATB Financial and the Calgary Farmer's Market to host a family friendly Earth Day celebration.
Round up your favourite preschoolers and toddlers, and meet us on the main stage of the Calgary Farmer's Market at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 17. We will sing some Earth Day songs, read a story about caring for the Earth, and do an Earth Day craft. At 11:45am, we will hold a draw, and two lucky winners will go home with prize packs from ATB Financial consisting of $40 gift certificates to spend at the Calgary Farmers' Market, as well as a reusable ATB Friends of the Market bag. There is no need to preregister, and you don't have to be a momstown Calgary member to attend. See you there!
Don't forget that ATB Financial is also sponsoring a bouncy castle at the Calgary Farmer's Market every Thursday this April, so your little monkeys can jump their sillies out either before or after our Earth Day celebration.
