Girls Night Out with My Favourite Girl

My 7-year old daughter has recently told me that she would like to spend more time together “connecting”, without her two brothers tagging along.  So it was great timing that we were invited to the grand opening of the newest Triple Flip store – located in North Calgary at Market Mall.  As a self-proclaimed tom-boy, fashion isn't really my specialty, but my daughter seems to have developed this feminine personality that definitely leaves her a bit crazy for clothes.

The grand opening was loads of fun and my daughter picked out some very cute things to add to her ever-expanding wardrobe.  But it wasn’t the miles of colorful clothing that got my attention.  It was the message that this Calgary-based company is promoting.

Yes, my daughter did come home with a bag full of fun accessories and clothing, but more importantly, she came home with a head full of ideas and positive thoughts. 

Linda Maslechko, one of the founders of Triple Flip took time out of her busy night to talk to my daughter about her great sense of fashion, encouraging her to visit the Triple Flip design studio sometime to see how the design team works.  She also told her about a great program they have that encourages young girls to submit their own design ideas.  If your child’s design is selected, they will get their garment as a gift once it is created!

To say my daughter was excited about this unique positive encouragement would be a huge understatement.   Since then she has been busy planning and sketching her designs and is proud and thrilled with each new creation.

My daughter is not a gifted artist, but she is very creative and can usually be found with her marker & crayon box and multiple pieces of paper making pictures for her friends, her teachers and her family!  This just took her passion for creating to a whole new level.

At least once a year in each city, Triple Flip holds a Flip Girl Photo Shoot.  From all the girls that enter, 24 names are randomly chosen to participate – no auditions, no judges, everyone has the same chance of being a Flip Girl!  I love the message this sends to our daughters.
