Child Safety Service New to Calgary

Child safety.  As a mother, it is always on my mind.  My daughter with her sweet, big heart would be the first to run off and help that stranger find their puppy.  And my boys are always exploring and it doesn't take them long to follow that curiosity further and further away from me.  Without scaring the 'friendly' out of them, I try to ensure that they learn how to keep themselves safe.

This month, momstown had the opportunity to be part of an important new safety service available to our kids and parents in Calgary.

Operation Kidsafe and Charlesglen Toyota Scion have teamed up to offer a digital fingerprinting service for Calgary and area families.  It is the first of its kind in Calgary and in Canada!  Charlesglen Toyota Scion will permanently offer this service for all to use and best of all... it's FREE!

So how does it work?
It's simple! Stop by the dealership, ask for the Operation Kidsafe service, and in about a minute you will have a print out of your child's finger prints and picture.  There are no messy inks, but instead they use a digital scanner that makes it easy to get your child's prints.  A picture is also taken and added to the kit.  Once your page is printed, the information is deleted from their computer.  This means that only you, the parent, has access to your child's personal information.
They recommend that you wait until your child is around 10 months old in order to get a good finger print, but our own little Grace got some good prints at only 4 months!

Parents can then provide this printout to law enforcement anywhere in the world to instantly aid in an investigation. The equipment they use is the same technology and equipment that is used by the FBI. Operation Kidsafe CEO Mark Bott says they have fingerprinted over 700,000 kids.

But this program isn't just about fingerprints.  In addition to providing parents with the tools they need in case of an emergency, they also provide education so parents can help train their children to avoid these emergencies.

I want to add a huge shout-out to Charlesglen Toyota Scion for providing this service in our community. When successful businesses give back to their community, the end result is a stronger, safer community!
