Fingerprint Necklaces: A Simple Mother's Day Gift

I am always on the lookout for easy and useful craft projects that I can make with my nephews to give my sister.  She is sentimental, and I know hand and foot print crafts are some of her favourite things.   She is not someone who typically wears a lot of jewellery, but last year we thought we would take a risk and make her fingerprint pendants.  Since C. was only a little more than a year old at that time, the project was a perfect way to include him.  We started with small balls of white Fimo modelling clay (Model Magic would work too):

We then squished our lumps of clay down in circular shapes about a centimeter thick: 

Added a jewellery ring to the top, and squished our fingerprints into each one:

After baking our pendants (if using Model Magic, allow to air dry),we coated them with a layer of Mod Podge to seal them, and give them a glossy appearance.  You could also paint the fingerprint impression with nail polish or acrylic paint to emphasize it:

For Oma (grandma), we created a second set with initials on it.  We used a wooden skewer to write the letters, but small stamps would likely work as well:

The process took less than half an hour to create (minus drying time), very inexpensive, and resulted in pretty pieces that are both functional and kid made, and will be kept for many years to come.
