Once a week you can find our momstown Calgary moms and babies connecting and sharing with other Calgary moms at one of our Baby Basics events. Through sensory play, like this Pumpkin Sensory activity, our babies get to explore the world around them! Sensory play is such an important part of early fine motor and language development. Using language when exploring; "does the pumpkin feel soft? does the pumpkin feel wet?" helps baby learn new words to label their world.
We set out a blanket, got the little ones ready to dive into the pumpkins, set out a bin with pieces in with some water, cut up chunks so each child had their own, and away they went.
(Of course part of the texture is the seeds so please pay attention to those going into the mouth)
Some chose to eat it right away - who says sensory play is just about touch!
Pumpkin Sensory Bin:
- Remove the top of a pumpkin
- cut up pumpkin or leave whole removing some of the seeds
- adding a touch of water makes the inside take on a different texture
